Pong Dam Displaced Families’ Children to Get Up to Rs 1 Lakh for Higher Education
Dharamshala, August 24: Children of families displaced by the Pong Dam project will be eligible for financial assistance of up to Rs 1 lakh for higher education, Deputy Commissioner (Relief and Rehabilitation), Raja Ka Talab, Kulveer Singh Rana said.
Under the decision of the Pong Dam Oustees Development Agency (PODA) Fund Committee, eligible students who have passed Class 10 or 12 and secured admission to government educational institutions for vocational training, professional courses or higher education will be provided assistance towards admission and tuition fees from the PODA fund.
The maximum assistance available under the scheme is Rs 1 lakh, subject to the prescribed eligibility criteria.
To qualify, applicants must belong to a Pong Dam displaced family and submit a compensation certificate as proof. The annual family income must not exceed Rs 50,000, for which an income certificate issued by the Tehsildar will be required.
Applicants must also submit proof of admission to a government educational institution and a certificate issued by the head of the institution specifying the admission and tuition fees.
In cases where a student discontinues the course or fails and leaves the course, an affidavit and surety bond, verified by the Tehsildar in the prescribed format, will be required for recovery of the assistance amount.

Deputy Commissioner Kulveer Singh Rana urged eligible Pong Dam displaced families to avail themselves of the scheme and submit applications along with all required documents.
