Jairam Thakur Targets Sukhu Government Over Delay in Shimla Zila Parishad Polls

Shimla, August 10: Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur has strongly criticised the Congress government over the continued delay in electing the Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson of the Shimla Zila Parishad.

Thakur alleged that despite all 25 elected members being present and taking oath on June 6, the election process was not completed. He questioned the repeated postponement of meetings and alleged that administrative machinery was being used to delay the democratic process.

Referring to the Himachal Pradesh High Court’s recent ruling in the Indora Block Samiti case, Thakur said elected local bodies cannot be kept incomplete indefinitely through administrative inaction. He said 13 elected Zila Parishad members have now approached the High Court seeking directions for completion of the election process.

Thakur alleged that the Congress government was attempting to gain political advantage where it lacked the numbers, and urged the administration to act strictly according to law and democratic norms.

He demanded that the Shimla Zila Parishad Chairperson and Vice-Chairperson elections be held without further delay, stating that the BJP would pursue the matter through constitutional and democratic means, including legal action if necessary.
