Shimla to Release ₹2 Lakh Per Disaster-Hit Drinking Water Scheme for Restoration

SHIMLA, Aug. 5: Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap on Wednesday said that ₹2 lakh will be released for each drinking water scheme damaged by natural disasters in Shimla district through the State Disaster Management Authority to expedite repair and restoration works.
Chairing the district-level review meeting of the Jal Jeevan Mission and Water & Sanitation Campaign, Kashyap directed the Jal Shakti Department to submit detailed proposals for damaged schemes within three days, along with all mandatory supporting documents.
He said financial assistance would be sanctioned only for those schemes whose damage has been officially recorded by the Revenue Department. The Deputy Commissioner instructed officials to ensure that any future damage to drinking water infrastructure is immediately reported to the concerned Patwari and that all required documentation is completed without delay.
Kashyap assured that funds would be released within three days of receiving complete proposals, provided all necessary documents are attached.
The meeting reviewed the progress of the Jal Jeevan Mission, under which 203 of the 264 sanctioned drinking water schemes in the district have been completed.
Under the Har Ghar Jal Village Certification programme, certificates have been issued to 1,699 of the district’s 2,536 villages, while the certification process for the remaining 837 villages is underway.
Officials also reported significant progress under the Jal Seva Aankalan (Water Service Assessment) programme. The assessment has been completed in 2,422 of 2,536 villages, achieving 95.5 percent coverage across the district.
Ten of the district’s 13 development blocks—Basantpur, Chhohara, Jubbal, Kotkhai, Mashobra, Nankhari, Narkanda, Rampur, Rohru and Tutu—have achieved 100 percent completion of the assessment.
The remaining three blocks are in the final phase of implementation:
- Chopal: 278 of 332 villages (83.73%)
- Kupvi: 42 of 51 villages (82.35%)
- Theog: 334 of 385 villages (86.75%)
The assessment is being carried out across all 413 Gram Panchayats in the district. Officials said the remaining villages will be enabled for final submission under the District Implementation Plan (DIP) after completion of both the Jal Seva and DTU assessments.
The Deputy Commissioner directed officials and field teams to complete the remaining work within the stipulated timeline and ensure 100 percent coverage of water service assessment across the district.
The meeting was attended by Additional Deputy Commissioner Sachin Sharma, District Planning Officer Nivedita, District Panchayat Officer Vinay Rudki, DRDA Project Officer Vivek Paul and all Block Development Officers.
