World Breastfeeding Week to Be Observed Across Hamirpur from August 1 to 7

Awareness Campaigns to Promote Early and Exclusive Breastfeeding

Hamirpur | July 31, 2026: The Health Department will observe World Breastfeeding Week across Hamirpur district from August 1 to 7, with awareness activities planned at all health institutions, Ayushman Arogya Mandirs and Anganwadi centres.

Chief Medical Officer Dr. Ajay Atri said the campaign aims to educate mothers and families about the importance of breastfeeding for the healthy growth and development of infants.

He said breastfeeding should begin within one hour of birth, and infants should be exclusively breastfed for the first six months of life. After six months, appropriate complementary foods should be introduced while continuing breastfeeding for two years or beyond.

Dr. Atri said breast milk is the safest and most complete source of nutrition for infants. It helps reduce the risk of diarrhoea, pneumonia and other infections while supporting healthy physical and mental development. Breastfeeding also offers significant health benefits for mothers.

He appealed to all pregnant and lactating women and their family members to prioritise breastfeeding and follow the guidance provided by healthcare workers.

During the week-long campaign, ASHA workers, Auxiliary Nurse Midwives (ANMs) and Health Department teams will organise community outreach programmes, counselling sessions and public awareness activities to encourage breastfeeding practices.

The Chief Medical Officer said promoting breastfeeding is a vital step towards building a healthier society and urged citizens to actively support the campaign.
