Kargil Vijay Diwas Observed in Shimla, War Veterans Honoured

Shimla, July 26: Kargil Vijay Diwas was observed with patriotic fervour at the District Level function held at Bachat Bhawan in the Deputy Commissioner’s Office, Shimla, where Kargil War veterans and ex-servicemen were honoured for their exemplary courage, valour and service to the nation.
The programme commenced with the National Anthem and floral tributes to the martyrs, followed by a pledge administered by Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap reaffirming the commitment towards the unity, integrity and security of the nation.
Paying tribute to the martyrs of the Kargil War, the Deputy Commissioner said Kargil Vijay symbolises the indomitable courage, unwavering resolve and patriotism of the Indian Armed Forces. He said the sacrifices made by the brave soldiers would continue to inspire generations. Emphasising that nation-building is a collective responsibility, he remarked that every citizen is a soldier in safeguarding the country’s unity and progress. He also called for collective efforts in areas such as environmental protection, quality education, sports promotion and tackling the growing menace of drug abuse.
Senior Superintendent of Police Gaurav Singh described Kargil Vijay Diwas as a symbol of the Armed Forces’ sacrifice, dedication and unmatched bravery. He paid homage to the martyrs and congratulated serving as well as retired personnel for their unwavering commitment to national service.
Deputy Director, Sainik Welfare Department, Atul Chambiyal delivered the welcome address, while SDM-cum-Assistant Commissioner Manjeet Sharma proposed the vote of thanks.
On the occasion, Kargil War veterans Subedar Major Shyam Lal Sharma, Subedar Major Diwakar Dutt Sharma, Subedar Ved Prakash Sharma, Havildar Laxmi Dutt Sharma, Havildar Ram Lal Sharma, Havildar Praveen Sharma and Naik Jai Singh were felicitated with shawls and mementoes.
Students from Portmore School and Sanskrit College, Phagli presented patriotic poems, while a documentary on the Kargil War was also screened. Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap honoured the participating students with a cash award of ₹1,000 each and traditional Himachali caps.
The event concluded with Kargil veterans sharing their experiences from the battlefield, inspiring the gathering with stories of courage, discipline and selfless service to the nation.
