The Shimla district administration has initiated steps to relocate the city’s vegetable, grain and timber markets, along with transport-related activities, outside the city to ease growing traffic congestion. Chairing a review meeting, Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap said a joint inspection of around 300 bighas of land near Mehli has been conducted to assess its suitability for the proposed markets and a Transport Nagar. Located close to the under-construction Mehli-Shoghi four-lane highway, the site is expected to improve accessibility for traders while reducing traffic pressure within Shimla. Officials from the Revenue Department, APMC, Transport Department, Municipal Corporation and Public Works Department participated in the inspection.
