LoP Challenges Sukhu to Reveal Himachal’s Debt Burden at End of His Tenure
The Leader of Opposition accused Chief Minister Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu of misleading the public over Himachal Pradesh’s debt, alleging that his statements were either false or only partially true.
He claimed that the loan payout rate was around 95 per cent under the previous BJP government, compared to approximately 50 per cent under the Sukhu government and 60 per cent during the tenure of the late Virbhadra Singh.
Referring to figures presented in the Assembly, he alleged that the Sukhu government borrowed Rs 6,897 crore during its first three-and-a-half months in office, averaging nearly Rs 63 crore per day.
He questioned how much debt the government would leave behind at the end of its tenure, alleging that the borrowing in four years was comparable to the combined debt incurred by six previous governments. Taking a swipe at the Chief Minister, he said Himachal had a “loan-loving” rather than a people-loving Chief Minister.
