International Pro-Boxing Championship Begins on Shimla’s Historic Ridge

Shimla, June 23: The International Pro-Boxing Championship commenced with great enthusiasm at Shimla’s historic Ridge Ground on Monday. The event, organized by the Pro-Boxing Organization Himachal Pradesh to mark the birth anniversary of former Chief Minister Virbhadra Singh, was inaugurated by Himachal Pradesh Assembly Speaker Kuldeep Singh Pathania.
Addressing the gathering, Pathania described Virbhadra Singh as a towering political leader whose contributions helped shape Himachal Pradesh’s identity across the country. He said the championship serves as a fitting tribute to his legacy while creating new opportunities for sports promotion in the state.
The Speaker emphasized that sports instill discipline, confidence, and a spirit of healthy competition among youth. He noted that hosting an international-level boxing event would allow Himachal’s aspiring athletes to witness world-class talent firsthand and draw inspiration from international competitors.
The championship features Indian boxers competing against fighters from Sri Lanka, Tajikistan, Uzbekistan, Thailand, and other countries. The event witnessed enthusiastic participation from spectators, with athletes delivering exciting performances in the ring.
Revenue Minister Jagat Singh Negi, Public Works and Urban Development Minister Vikramaditya Singh, MLAs Harish Janartha and Hardeep Bawa, Deputy Mayor Uma Kaushal, former MP Pratibha Singh, HIMUDA Vice Chairman Yashwant Chhajta, and other dignitaries were also present on the occasion.
