2 min read

Sundernagar, May 09: The ambitious of the Himachal Pradesh Government is emerging as a new symbol of hope and success for orchardists across the state. In a remarkable example of determination and innovation, Jeevan Kaushal, a resident of Brikhmani Panchayat in Sundernagar development block, has scripted an inspiring success story through modern fruit cultivation after retirement.

Jeevan Kaushal retired from the Himachal Pradesh Fire Services Department in 2020. After retirement, he decided to venture into modern horticulture and, under the HP SHIVA Project, planted nearly 300 plum saplings in his orchard in 2022.

With consistent hard work, proper care and strong family support, his orchard has now produced its first high-quality crop of Red Beaut plums. The first consignment was sent to Bhuntar Vegetable Market on Friday, where the produce was purchased in bulk by Ram Fruit Company at around Rs 200 per kilogram. The attractive colour and premium quality of the fruit received appreciation from buyers.

Expressing his happiness, Jeevan Kaushal said that after retirement he wanted to do something beneficial for the family and inspiring for others. He credited the success to the blessings of God, support from the HP SHIVA Project team, dedication of his family and continuous hard work. He said receiving such a good price for the first crop from plants planted in 2022 was a matter of pride and encouragement for the family.

He further stated that efforts would continue to establish the fruit as a recognised brand of the region and, in the future, work would also be undertaken towards obtaining a GI tag after completing all necessary procedures.

Jeevan Kaushal specially acknowledged the support of his wife Neelam Kaushal and mother Kanta Kaushal, saying their constant encouragement and collective family efforts played a vital role in achieving this success.

He also highlighted that technical guidance, quality planting material and regular support provided under the project helped him understand and adopt modern horticulture practices effectively.

People in the area believe that his success story will inspire many farmers and young people to take up modern fruit cultivation and horticulture in the coming years.
