Education Minister Rohit Thakur Inaugurates Development Projects Worth Crores in Rohru’s Nawar Region

Shimla, April 7: Himachal Pradesh Education Minister Rohit Thakur inaugurated and inspected multiple development projects in the Nawar area of Rohru subdivision, focusing on strengthening irrigation, drinking water supply, and educational infrastructure.
He inaugurated the lift irrigation scheme from Dogda Khad to Garhadi in Gram Panchayat Pujarli-4, built at a cost of around ₹89 lakh. The project will benefit farmers of Pujarli-4 and Karasa Panchayats, boosting agriculture and horticulture in the region.
Emphasizing infrastructure development, Thakur said that a strong road network is essential for horticulture growth. He added that significant funding has been provided under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGSY) and PDNA for improving road connectivity.
MLA Rohru Mohan Lal Brakta, addressing the gathering, highlighted that despite financial challenges, development works are being carried forward and announced ₹5 lakh for a community building.
The Education Minister also inaugurated the Deorighat-Daroti lift drinking water scheme under the Jal Shakti Mission, completed at a cost of approximately ₹1.82 crore. The scheme will provide clean drinking water to residents of Gram Panchayat Tikkar and nearby areas.
Highlighting government initiatives for farmers, Thakur said the Universal Carton Scheme is benefiting apple growers, while ₹160 crore has been disbursed under the Market Intervention Scheme (MIS), including ₹90 crore liabilities from the previous government.
He also inspected the under-construction building of Government High School Kharla, being developed at a cost of ₹3.33 crore. The project has been tendered and work is in progress.
Addressing a public gathering, Thakur reiterated the government’s commitment to delivering quality education in remote areas. He noted that several students from the school have been selected for Navodaya and Sainik Schools, bringing pride to the region.
He added that around 160 schools have been linked with the CBSE curriculum in the first phase, English education has been introduced from Class 1, and smart uniforms have been implemented to bridge the gap between government and private schools.
Students also presented cultural performances during the event, and the Minister announced ₹15,000 to encourage their participation and preserve cultural heritage.
Several dignitaries, including Mandal President Motilal Derta, former BDC member Gyanvati, SDM Rohru Dharmesh Ramaotra, and DSP Rohru Pranav Chauhan, were present on the occasion.
