Dedicated Website Nears Completion

Shimla, April 7: In a major step towards improving arrangement and transparency in temples, Shimla Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap has directed officials to fix minimum standards for ‘bhandaras’ (community feasts) across temples in the district.

During a review meeting held on Tuesday, the Deputy Commissioner instructed all SDMs to ensure uniformity in the menu and minimum offerings for bhandaras in temples under their jurisdiction. The rates for organizing bhandaras will be finalized only after these standards are set.

The meeting also reviewed the progress of a dedicated website being developed for prominent temples in Shimla district. Officials informed that nearly 80% of the work has already been completed.

Kashyap said the website is being designed to provide a comprehensive digital platform for devotees. It will offer facilities such as online darshan, bhandara slot booking, donation options, live aarti streaming, and accommodation (sarai) booking.

In the first phase, the website will cover three major temples—Mata Tara Devi Temple, Sankat Mochan Temple, and Jakhoo Temple—after which other temples in the district will be gradually integrated.

He emphasized that the initiative will enhance transparency and accessibility, allowing devotees to easily access information such as temple history, cultural significance, maps, photos, and aarti schedules.

Additionally, details of bhandaras—including dates and organizers—will now be available online with a single click, a facility that was previously unavailable to the public.

Officials from Himachal Pradesh State Industrial Development Corporation Limited have been directed to ensure timely completion of the project. AC to DC Devi Chand Thakur was also present during the meeting.
