Mandi, March 29, 2026:
Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur on Sunday accused the state government of deliberately targeting welfare schemes launched during the previous regime. Speaking to the media after listening to the Prime Minister’s *Mann Ki Baat* programme in Mandi, he alleged that the government has spent the past three years shutting down institutions and discrediting earlier initiatives.
Thakur claimed that the government has failed to introduce impactful policies of its own and is instead attempting to undermine existing schemes. He also criticized the Chief Minister over remarks related to the Himcare scheme, calling them misleading and politically motivated.
Defending Himcare, Thakur said the scheme has benefited over 11 lakh people by providing free treatment and dismissed allegations of irregularities as “baseless.” He asserted that all treatments under the scheme followed proper medical protocols and challenged the government to verify facts on the ground.
He further accused the government of spreading misinformation and warned that attempts to discredit public welfare initiatives would not succeed.
