Storytelling Session Connects Students with Folk Culture
Shimla, September 24: The Language and Culture Department organised a storytelling session, ‘Ek Samay Ki Baat Hai’, at the historic Gaiety Theatre complex to encourage creativity among students and connect them with Himachal Pradesh’s folk culture.
Senior litterateur Anurag Parashar narrated two folk tales, ‘Suchna’ and ‘Pet Ki Ladai’, to around 60 students of Government Excellence Senior Secondary School, Chhota Shimla. Through the stories, he highlighted the importance of accurate information, unity, making good use of available resources and respecting teachers and elders.
Students also participated in the session by narrating stories carrying messages on honesty, contentment, courage to question, and providing girls opportunities to pursue their dreams. Lakshya narrated ‘The Honest Woodcutter’, while Paridhi presented an inspirational story on Swami Vivekananda. Goonjan narrated ‘The Child Who Was Not Afraid to Ask Questions’, and Sonakshi presented ‘Mother’s Support, Daughter’s Dream’. Ashish, Vishal and Aarab also participated in the storytelling session.
Students interacted with the storyteller and learnt about the nuances of storytelling and writing. The department said similar programmes would be organised in other districts on the monthly Bag-Free Day to promote creativity and cultural awareness among students.
Assistant Director Anil Harta, District Language Officer Shimla Sarojna Narwal, teachers and other officials were present.
