Seeks CM’s Apology
Shimla, March 28, 2026:
Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur intensified his attack on the state government over remarks related to treatment of rare cancer cases, calling them “misleading and unfortunate.” Addressing the media after the Assembly discussion, he said the Chief Minister’s statements had created confusion and unnecessarily sensationalized a medical issue.
Thakur clarified that the cases in question involved chemotherapy treatment for rare cancers under the Himcare scheme and not any surgical procedure as alleged. He stated that four patients, including a senior citizen and a minor, were treated using a chemotherapy drug combination under an existing package, as no specific protocol exists for certain rare cancers.
He emphasized that drugs like Lipodox and Carboplatin are widely used in treating multiple types of cancers and that the treatment was carried out under expert medical supervision. According to him, no surgeries were performed and all patients benefited from the treatment.
Defending the Himcare scheme, Thakur said it has provided healthcare support to over 11 lakh beneficiaries and accused the government of attempting to discredit a successful welfare initiative for political reasons.
He demanded that the Chief Minister apologize for what he termed as “factually incorrect statements” and cautioned against politicizing sensitive healthcare matters, stating that such remarks could undermine public trust in the system.
