Strengthen Waste Management Around Shimla Airport: DC

Shimla, March 13, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap directed officials to strengthen waste collection and sanitation systems around Shimla Airport during a meeting of the Airport Environment Management Committee. He emphasized involving local panchayats and stakeholders to maintain cleanliness in the airport vicinity and urged airport authorities to launch awareness drives in nearby schools and communities.

The meeting also reviewed wildlife activity around the airport. Officials informed that cages would be installed, in coordination with the Forest Department, to capture leopards spotted near the airport area. The DC further stated that obtaining a No Objection Certificate (NOC) from airport authorities will be mandatory for any construction within a 10-km radius of the airport.

He also directed completion of formalities for an alternative approach road to the airport and ordered action on reports regarding pruning and removal of dangerous trees near the airport premises.
