Elderly Woman Airlifted from Snowbound Dodra Kwar to PGI Chandigarh

Shimla, Feb 01, 2026 — An 85-year-old woman from the remote Dodra Kwar region of Shimla district was successfully airlifted to Postgraduate Institute of Medical Education and Research Chandigarh for urgent treatment amid heavy snowfall.

The patient, who had been suffering from paralysis and whose condition had turned critical, was rescued with the help of two Indian Air Force helicopters following swift coordination between the state government and district administration. Initially planned to be brought to IGMC Shimla, bad weather forced authorities to directly shift her to PGI Chandigarh.

Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap said timely action ensured the patient received advanced medical care despite challenging conditions.
