Una, Jan 28, 2026: Deputy Commissioner Jatin Lal said stricter steps will be taken to make Una district drug-free and safer from road accidents. He warned that action will be initiated against school children coming to schools on bikes or scooters, and accountability will be fixed not only on parents but also on school management. SDMs have been directed to conduct surprise inspections in schools.
Chairing meetings of the district-level committee under the National Narcotics Coordination Portal (NCORD) and the District Road Safety Committee, the DC stressed strict action in drunk driving cases. He said driving licences of offenders will be suspended and in repeated violations, licences may be cancelled as per law.
He also directed departments to strictly act against over-speeding, dangerous driving, overloading and other serious traffic offences. Accident-prone black spots will be identified and improved on priority, while no-parking and no-vending zones in major markets will be enforced strictly.
The DC instructed the National Highway Authority to install more signboards, barriers and rumble strips, especially at sensitive stretches like the Deehatti area on the national highway.
To strengthen awareness, schools will conduct regular anti-drug pledges during morning assemblies and organise activities on drug abuse prevention and road safety. Monthly reports will be submitted to the DC and SP offices.
Under the ‘Adopt a School’ programme, officers have been asked to visit schools regularly and interact with students on discipline, moral values, drug abuse and road safety.
Private de-addiction and rehabilitation centres will remain under strict monitoring, with updated records of staff and patients to prevent irregularities.
The DC also announced that an anti-chitta awareness walkathon will be organised in Una district in the second week of February as part of the ongoing campaign led by the Chief Minister.
SP Amit Yadav said that in drunk driving cases, licences will be suspended for first-time offenders and cancelled for repeat violations. He urged departments to share information related to drug supply, underage driving and other violations with the police.
