HPU Inter-College Shooting Championship Concludes in Shimla

Shimla, September 11: The three-day Himachal Pradesh University Inter-College Shooting Championship concluded at Government College for Girls, Shimla, on Thursday, with 110 shooters from 21 affiliated colleges competing in the men’s and women’s categories.

The championship, held from September 9 to 11, saw participation from 66 male and 44 female shooters. The closing ceremony was attended by Himachal Pradesh University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Mahavir Singh, who congratulated the winners and participants and stressed the importance of sports in the physical and mental development of students.

In his address, Prof. Singh also raised concerns over the increasing dependence of young people on social media. He said excessive scrolling and prolonged consumption of short-form videos can affect students’ focus, waste valuable time and contribute to problems such as disturbed sleep. He advised students to use technology as a tool rather than become dependent on it.

“Social media is a tool, not your entire life. You should control social media; social media should not control you,” he said, encouraging students to spend more time playing sports, reading, and interacting with family, friends and society.

College Principal Dr. Anurita Saxena, who chaired the event, also urged students to stay away from substance abuse, describing addiction as a serious concern affecting young people. She called upon students to focus on their future and play a constructive role in the development of society and the country.

Championship Results

In the 10-metre air pistol men’s category, GDC Dharamshala secured the first position with 1,624 points, followed by GC Palampur with 1,556 points and Government Degree College Baijnath with 1,516 points.

In the 10-metre air rifle men’s category, Government College Palampur topped the standings with 1,684 points. DAV Kangra finished second with 1,624 points, while GC Seema secured third place with 1,620 points.

In the 10-metre air pistol women’s category, GDC Dharamshala emerged victorious with 1,496 points. GDC Baijnath finished second with 1,418 points, while Government College Seema secured third place with 1,276 points.

In the 10-metre air rifle women’s category, Sanjauli College claimed the top spot with 1,710 points, followed by GC Palampur with 1,676 points and GDC Dharamshala with 1,622 points.

In the individual air pistol women’s event, Aradhya of GC Palampur won the gold, while Aparna Chandel of Rajgarh College and Aanchal Rana of Baijnath College finished second and third, respectively.

In the men’s individual air pistol event, Krish Rana of GC Palampur secured first place, followed by Ajay Singh of Nalagarh College and Jaivansh of GDC Dharamshala.

In the individual air rifle women’s event, Divyanshi of Sanjauli College emerged winner. Apoorva of GDC Dharamshala finished second and Pragya of Sanjauli College secured third position.

International player Surya Pratap Singh Banshtu, Supervisor Prof. Vikrant, referee Ravindra Kumar, internationally qualified judge Vikrant Rana, Rifle Association Vice-President Rajiv Sood, and the association’s treasurer were among those present at the closing ceremony.

College Vice-Principal Dr. Subhash Kapta, along with Dr. Kartik Chauhan, Dr. Surender Sharma, team in-charges, faculty members and students, also attended the event.
