Governor Shiv Pratap Shukla today emphasized that modernization was essential, but transforming oneself completely in western culture must be avoided. “Radical overhaul distances us from our cultural and natural identity. We should adopt modernity while preserving our inherent character,” he remarked.
He was addressing the Annual Prize distribution function of Rajkiya Kanya Mahavidyalaya (RKMV), Shimla, where he lauded the institution for its remarkable achievements and its role as a beacon of women’s empowerment.
“India is progressing with renewed confidence, and at the heart of this growth, are our daughters,” the Governor said. When women are respected and empowered, the society and the nation flourish,” he stated. The Governor praised the college for nurturing leadership and excellence in science, art, technology and administration besides in research and various social initiatives.
The Governor urged students to embrace new technologies, innovation, research and environmental conservation while upholding values and social responsibility. Citing Russian President Vladimir Putin’s recent remark that “whatever Prime Minister Narendra Modi thinks, he accomplishes,” he said that Indians should have full confidence in national leadership and should remain committed in the service of Nation first. “A secure nation ensures security to the citizens,” he added.
He expressed satisfaction that RKMV is the only college in the state formally registered with the Youth Red Cross, reflecting its dedication to humanitarian values, compassion and community service. He appreciated the college’s consistent anti-drug initiatives, including its widely recognized Anti-Chitta Campaign, and commended the impactful street play presented by the students on drug abuse.
The Governor said the college has effectively aligned itself with the National Education Policy and has emerged as a model institution. He expressed happiness that the college has become a strong platform for students from tribal and rural areas, embodying the spirit of inclusive education.
