AHSB’s Young Shooter Shivas Janaik Builds Impressive Medal Tally at 10
Shimla, Sept.14 : At an age when most children are discovering their favourite games, 10-year-old Shivas Janaik is already building an impressive record in shooting. The Class V student of Auckland House School for Boys has won eight medals since 2025, including five gold, two silver and one bronze, establishing himself as a promising young shooter in the state.
His latest achievement came at the 10th Himachal Pradesh State Inter-School Shooting Championship held from September 4 to 6, where Shivas won gold in the 10-metre rifle event. Around 145 players competed in the championship, making his victory all the more significant. His score of 395 points put him just one point ahead of the next competitor.
The latest gold is part of a remarkable run in 2026. Shivas won gold at the 18th Shimla District Shooting Championship held from May 30 to June 1 and followed it with another gold at the 2nd Pre-HP State Shooting Championship from June 12 to 15. At the 31st HP State Shooting Championship, held from July 9 to 14, he added two silver medals to his tally.
Yet, Shivas says his journey into shooting was never planned as a pursuit of medals. It began with his elder brother introducing him to the sport. “One fine day he introduced me to the sport, and I never thought it would become an integral part of me,” he says.
The state championship was particularly challenging, he recalled, with some competitors having better equipment. But Shivas relied on preparation, determination and, above all, concentration. The final was decided by the narrowest of margins that is just one point.
His parents had initially hoped he might finish fourth or fifth. The gold medal came as a pleasant surprise and a moment of immense pride for the family. For Shivas, however, the focus remains on improving his game.
Interestingly, his favourite subject at school is mathematics, which he feels helps develop the concentration and focus needed in shooting. Outside the range, he enjoys cricket and football, listens to music and is also fond of singing.
At 10, Shivas has already experienced the thrill of winning at district and state levels. With eight medals to his name and a growing passion for the 10-metre rifle event, the young shooter is quietly building a foundation for what could be a promising sporting journey ahead.
The entire AHSB family is immensely proud of his success and wishes him many more milestones and achievements ahead.
