Shimla, November 16: The Shyamla Educational & Social Welfare Trust, Shimla, held an important meeting today to review its major social initiatives from the past year and plan upcoming programmes.
The Trust highlighted several impactful activities carried out over the last two years. Under the “One Family – One Plant” environmental campaign, nearly 1,000 families planted 1,000 saplings at Gole Pahadi—an initiative now seen as a model of community-driven environmental awareness in Shimla.
The Trust has also distributed over 25,000 books and notebooks to more than 2,500 underprivileged students, and launched a winter relief drive providing warm clothes and blankets to needy families under the “One Family – One Blanket” initiative.
To address rising drug abuse among youth, the Trust conducted a door-to-door survey covering 3,000 households, later submitting a detailed report to the Hon’ble Governor of Himachal Pradesh. A public symposium attended by around 900 citizens further strengthened community engagement and awareness.
Taking its anti-drug mission forward, the Trust has launched a state-level initiative “Chitte Par Chot”, under which 17 NGOs from across Himachal Pradesh will hold a collaborative workshop on December 7 in Shimla under the banner of Sanjeevni (A Group of NGOs).
During the meeting, a new executive committee was also unanimously elected:
- President: Suraj Jamalta
- Vice President: Rupankush Nagal
- Chief Secretary: Isha Sharma
- Joint Secretary: Aniket Dhandha
- Treasurer: Rohit Jasal
- Social Media Head: Dheeraj Sharma
- Press Secretaries: Saurabh & Vishal
Several new members were nominated to strengthen future outreach and public welfare programmes. The Trust reaffirmed its commitment to expanding its community initiatives and intensifying efforts against drug abuse in the state.
