Shimla, October 24, 2025: Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur accused the Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu-led Congress government of attempting to amend Section 118 of the Himachal Pradesh Tenancy and Land Reforms Act, 1972, to benefit their cronies and commercial friends at the cost of the state’s interests. He alleged that the CM has become a puppet of corrupt officials and mafia networks, compromising the state’s heritage and resources for private gains.
Thakur highlighted that the BJP opposed similar government attempts to grant religious organizations exemptions under Section 118, allowing them to sell land. He warned that even minor modifications to Section 118 for favoritism would not be tolerated, asserting that the BJP is committed to protecting Himachal Pradesh and its public assets.
He further criticized the CM for avoiding public interaction during his visit to Barsar, where elderly and differently-abled citizens had gathered to raise concerns regarding delayed pensions. Thakur also pointed out the government’s failure to lay even a single brick for the promised 100-bed Barsar Civil Hospital over the past three years, despite multiple announcements. He claimed the government has obstructed existing projects initiated during the previous BJP administration, delaying their completion.
