Bilaspur, August 4:
The deadline for enrollment under the Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY) in Bilaspur district has been extended to August 14, 2025. The scheme, implemented by Agriculture Insurance Company through the Agriculture Department, offers financial protection to farmers against crop losses due to natural disasters and other agricultural risks.
Deputy Director of Agriculture, Prem Chand Thakur, informed that compensation is provided for damages caused during sowing or planting due to abnormal weather conditions. Losses to standing crops (from sowing to harvesting) due to drought, floods, pest attacks, diseases, and waterlogging are also covered under the scheme.
Additionally, if crops are damaged within two weeks after harvesting due to unseasonal rains or cyclones, farmers will receive insurance benefits. Localized calamities like hailstorms, landslides, and waterlogging affecting specific fields are also included.
Premium rates have been set at ₹6,600 per hectare for paddy (11%) and ₹12,000 per hectare for maize (20%), out of which farmers will pay only 2%—₹1,200 per hectare or ₹96 per bigha—with the remaining amount subsidized by the government. So far, 21,262 loanee and 241 non-loanee farmers have enrolled in the scheme.
For assistance, farmers can contact Ratan Lal Thakur (7018083042), Brijesh Chandel (9418463891), Kishor Kumar (9817488310), Deepak Kumar (7018750761), or District Manager, Agriculture Insurance Company (9857075081).
All farmers are urged to insure their crops by August 14 to safeguard their hard-earned produce from natural calamities.
