Sukhu Govt Files FIRs Instead of Providing Relief to Disaster Victims: Jairam

Shimla, July 27, 2025 – Former Chief Minister and Leader of Opposition, Jairam Thakur, has slammed the Himachal Pradesh government for its “insensitive” handling of disaster-affected people, accusing it of filing FIRs against victims instead of offering them immediate relief.
Thakur said the government should be applying balm to the wounds of those affected by natural calamities, but is instead rubbing salt by registering FIRs. He termed it a first in history where a disaster management minister returns from a calamity-hit region after initiating police cases against victims, instead of providing aid or support.
He further questioned the slow pace of relief and restoration work, saying even basic road connectivity is being restored by locals using their own machinery. “This reflects the government’s failure and inhuman response,” he added.
Challenging the state government, he stated, “If FIRs are the solution, go ahead and register one against me too. We are not afraid.”
In a separate note, Thakur congratulated Prime Minister Narendra Modi on being ranked the world’s most popular leader by Morning Consult, with a 75% approval rating, calling it a matter of pride and a testament to Modi’s global leadership.
