Mega Mock Drill Conducted Across Shimla District to Test Disaster Preparedness

Shimla, June 6, 2025: A state-level 9th Mega Mock Drill was conducted across all sub-divisions of Shimla district to assess preparedness and coordination during natural disasters. Various scenarios such as landslides, floods, fires, and building collapses were simulated at multiple locations.
In Shimla Urban, mock drills were held at Vikas Nagar and Portmore School. A fire incident at a petrol pump led to two rescues and one casualty. At Portmore School, 35 people were rescued after a simulated building collapse.
In Sunni (Kalighat), floods caused damage to several homes, resulting in 28 injuries and 4 deaths. In Chaidla (Theog), a landslide simulation reported 7 deaths and the rescue of 32 people. In Kotkhai, landslides damaged the HRTC bus stand, and four buses were safely relocated.
At Rohru’s Samoli area and Dodra Kwar’s Kwar village, floods and landslides damaged school buildings. A total of 78 students and 8 teachers were rescued. In Chopal, a landslide drill led to 6 people being sent to the hospital and 2 reported dead. In Kupvi (Salah), 250 people were rescued during a landslide scenario that caused 11 deaths and killed 18 animals.
In Kumarsain’s Nog Kainchi, a landslide damaged an ITI building, with 55 people rescued. In Jubbal, a simulated landslide after heavy rain trapped around 100 people. Sixteen were rescued with injuries; 9 were referred for specialized treatment.
In Rampur, a mock earthquake-induced flood in the Sutlej River trapped people in homes and schools. Rescue teams evacuated 24 individuals, with one declared dead and others receiving treatment.
Personnel from NDRF, ITBP, Police, Fire, Health, and Revenue departments actively participated, demonstrating rescue techniques and coordination required during emergencies.
