Opposition Alleges Corruption Cover-Up in Vimal Negi Case, Demands Himachal CM’s Resignation

Shimla, May 24, 2025 — Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur has launched a scathing attack on the Himachal Pradesh government, accusing it of sacrificing officer Vimal Negi to protect Congress leaders allegedly involved in corruption. Thakur stated that the extent of corruption in the state has reached alarming levels and claimed Negi’s death was not a suicide but a result of systemic pressure linked to corrupt dealings.

Thakur revealed that Rs. 13 crore was allegedly released under government pressure for the Pakhubela Solar Power Project, bypassing rules that required a 10% deduction as liquidation charges. He claimed this financial irregularity and government interference led to Negi’s tragic demise.

Welcoming the High Court’s decision to hand over the investigation to the CBI, Thakur criticized CM Sukhvinder Singh Sukhu for misleading the public by claiming Negi’s family never demanded a CBI probe. He further highlighted that Negi’s pen drive was tampered with, and demanded strict action against those responsible.

The Opposition demanded the Chief Minister’s resignation and raised eight key demands, including disciplinary action against officers who tampered with records, investigation of political involvement, and protection for whistleblowers.
