Jairam Thakur Visits Samaz to Assess Tragedy, Calls for Intensified Search Operations
1 min readShimla – On 4th August 2024, Leader of Opposition and former Chief Minister Jairam Thakur visited the disaster-affected area of Samaz in Shimla. During his visit, he met with the families and relatives of those missing, expressing his condolences and offering support. Thakur emphasized the need to intensify the search operations to quickly locate the 36 missing individuals. He noted the unimaginable devastation in Samaz, where a once-thriving village now bears the scars of tragedy.
Thakur urged the government to expedite search efforts and provide immediate assistance to the survivors. He called for the establishment of relief camps and essential resources for those affected. Additionally, he stressed the importance of proactive measures to prevent similar incidents in the future, pledging the opposition’s full support to the government’s efforts.
In his appeal, Thakur requested that the compensation for the current disaster-affected individuals be on par with the previous relief packages to help them rebuild their lives. Accompanying him on the visit were Kaul Negi, Banjar MLA Surender Shourie, Anni MLA Lokender Kumar, and local residents.
Jairam Thakur flagged off trucks loaded with relief material from Rampur to the disaster-affected area of Samaz. The relief supplies, provided by Ramakrishna Mission, included bedding, food rations, and kitchen sets. Thakur praised the overwhelming response from the public and non-governmental organizations, acknowledging their commendable efforts in supporting the disaster-stricken community.
