Shimla, January 3: While the hilly areas of Himachal Pradesh are experiencing clear weather and warmth, the plains, including Bilaspur, Una, Hamirpur, Kangra, and Mandi, are shrouded in thick fog causing difficulties for the residents. The Meteorological Department has issued a yellow alert for these plain districts due to the ongoing dense fog until the afternoon. The Meteorological Department predicts that dense fog will persist in these areas until January 6, reducing visibility.
Fog Alert: Dense Fog Expected in Plains Until January 6
According to the Meteorological Department, the plains of Himachal Pradesh, including Bilaspur, Una, Hamirpur, Kangra, and Mandi, are under a yellow alert due to dense fog. The forecast indicates that dense fog will continue to affect these districts during late night and early morning hours. Until January 8, the meteorological conditions suggest that these areas will experience heavy fog, leading to reduced visibility. The weather is expected to remain clear in the state until January 8.
Possibility of Rain and Snowfall After January 9
With the active western disturbance expected on January 9, there are chances of rain and snowfall in the state. This might offer a chance for tourists in hill stations to witness the season’s first snowfall. While Shimla and surrounding areas are enjoying sunny weather, residents are advised to be prepared for chilly nights. Shimla recorded a minimum temperature of 4.2 degrees Celsius on Wednesday.
According to the Meteorological Department’s report, Kukumseri in Lahaul-Spiti district recorded the lowest temperature at -9.1 degrees Celsius.
In other cold spots, Lahaul-Spiti recorded a minimum temperature of -7.1 degrees Celsius, Kalpa in Kinnaur at -2.4 degrees Celsius, Reckong Peo at 0.2 degrees Celsius, Bhuntar at 0.5 degrees Celsius, Mandi at 1.2 degrees Celsius, Solan at 1.4 degrees Celsius, Sarahan and Sunder Nagar at 1.5 degrees Celsius, Chamba at 2.9 degrees Celsius, Bharmour and Palampur at 3 degrees Celsius, Kufri at 3.1 degrees Celsius, Dalhousie at 4.3 degrees Celsius, Una at 5 degrees Celsius, and Dharamshala at 8.2 degrees Celsius.
