Monsoon Session of Himachal Pradesh Assembly to Witness Over 700 Heated Questions

Shimla, September 16 – The monsoon session of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly is expected to be marked by intense debates this time, as more than 700 questions have been raised by both the ruling party and the opposition. For the seven-day session, 743 questions have been received by the Assembly Secretariat, with various departments tasked with responding to them. The recent devastation caused by heavy rains in the state is expected to be a major focus during the session, with questions predominantly centered around disaster management.

The Speaker of the Assembly, Kuldeep Singh Pathania, announced that the monsoon session would take place at the Assembly Building in Shimla from September 18 to September 25. The session will commence at 2:00 PM on September 18. On that day, there will also be an homage paid to the late former legislator Khub Ram. The session will continue on September 23, a Saturday, and September 21 has been designated as a non-government business day.

Pathania stated that a total of 743 questions have been submitted for the session, with 547 marked and 196 unmarked. The majority of the questions have been submitted online. These questions pertain to various subjects, including the recent heavy rainfall and natural disasters, government efforts to address the disaster, the condition of roads, DPRs (Detailed Project Reports) for approved roads, improvement of colleges, schools, and healthcare institutions, filling vacant positions in various departments, tourism, water supply, prevention of rising drug use among youth, increasing crime cases, and solar energy and transportation systems in the state.

The Speaker highlighted that notifications related to these questions have been forwarded to the respective departments. Additionally, he emphasized that 70% of the agenda for the session revolves around disaster management.

Preparations have been made to ensure security during the session, and law and order arrangements have been put in place. Pathania urged cooperation from both the ruling and opposition parties to maintain the dignity of the Assembly and engage in productive discussions on the state’s development and people-centric issues. To this end, an all-party meeting has been scheduled for Sunday afternoon, attended by opposition leader Jai Ram Thakur, Parliamentary Affairs Minister Harshvardhan Chauhan, and Chief Parliamentary Secretary Mohan Lal Brakta.
