Shimla, August 4: The capital city of Shimla continues to experience heavy rainfall, leading to instances of landslides and trees falling. Last night, a massive deodar tree fell on a building in the Vikas Nagar Housing Board Colony.
The loud noise of the falling tree prompted residents to quickly evacuate their homes. The building suffered significant damage, and the safety of the structure is now in question. Consequently, residents had to leave their homes during the night. Upon receiving the information about the fallen tree, forest department workers immediately arrived at the scene to remove it. The falling tree caused the rooftop water tanks to break apart, resulting in substantial damage to the roof as well.
Meanwhile, Mayor Surendra Chauhan of the Municipal Corporation (MC) also visited the site to assess the situation. Other trees that pose a threat of falling are also being cut down on his directives. Mayor Chauhan mentioned that late at night, the tree fell on the building, causing substantial damage. The local councilor had informed him about the incident. The work to remove the fallen tree has already begun. Some residents were relocated to another building for their safety.
Mayor Chauhan further stated that during the monsoon, trees that pose risks to houses are being prioritized for removal to prevent any harm to lives and property. Forest department officials have also been given specific instructions in this regard.
