Manali-Leh road opened in record time, tourists may visit in April

March 25 – Strategically important Manali-Leh road has been restored. The Border Roads Organization (BRO) has removed snow from 222 km from Manali to Himachal border Sarchu. The Border Roads Organization has put together a program on partnership along the route in which BRO officials will be present. The route was officially closed in November. Last year this route was opened on 26 March.

While another team of BRO from Leh side has cleared the snow and opened the road. The total length of the Manali-Leh route is 428 kms. In the month of April, there can be movement of army and tourists through the strategic route. On the other hand, in Himachal Pradesh, amidst the yellow alert, there was heavy rain in the plains and snowfall on the peaks on Saturday.

15 roads including two national highways are closed in the state. 322 power transformers have failed. Five drinking water schemes are running affected. There has been snowfall in Chamba, Rohtang and Jalori Pass. Tepa gram panchayat of Churah subdivision of Chamba district received light snowfall in the morning. Langera has received 4 to 5 inches of snowfall.

It rained heavily in the capital Shimla in the morning. Office going employees and students faced difficulties in reaching the school. Even today, there is a forecast of rain and snowfall in many areas of the state. The weather is likely to remain bad till March 28 in the mid and high-hill districts of Shimla, Solan, Sirmaur, Mandi, Kullu, Chamba, Kinnaur and Lahaul-Spiti. There are chances of rain till March 26 in the plain districts of Una, Bilaspur, Hamirpur and Kangra. There is a possibility of clear weather here on March 27 and 28.
