Distinguished Speaker Seminar by Dr. Bonita V. Saunders

Solan, Jan 13– On January 11 the SIAM JUIT chapter successfully conducted the second seminar of its Distinguished Speaker Seminar Series, the front-running events of the Student Chapter.
The seminar was attended by the Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Rajendra Kumar Sharma, Dean (A&R) Prof. (Dr.) Ashok Kumar Gupta, Faculty Advisor Prof. (Dr.) Vivek Kumar Sehgal and other faculty members of the University.
The speaker for the seminar was Dr. Bonita V. Saunders, Leader, Mathematical Software Group Applied and Computational Mathematics Division (ACMD), Information Technology Laboratory, National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST), US Department of Commerce and shared her insights on the ongoing research in computational and applied mathematics at the NIST.
She has been a part of NIST for more than three decades and has been a research mathematician at NIST since 1989 and has worked on 5 very prominent projects and is currently leading the project for DLMF Standard Reference Tables on Demand (DLMF Tables). Her achievements include the 2017 NIST Information Technology Laboratory Outstanding Contribution Award for excellence in technical leadership and US Department of Commerce Gold Medal for Distinguished Achievement, (2011).
The seminar concluded with a Q&A session with the attendees, where both the faculty and the students asked their queries and discussed a few interesting applications of the discipline.
