Webinar on “Role of libraries in Improving Institution’s Research Publications and Impact” Indian Institute of Advanced Study

The IIAS has organised a webinar on “Role of libraries in improving institution’s research publications and impact” on 01st October, 2021 at 3.00 P.M. Dr. Vijayakumar, Strategic information advisor, office of the Provost, King Abdullah University of Science and Technology (KAUST), Saudi Arabia delivered a talk on above mentioned subject. Mr. Prem Chand, Secretary, IIAS Shimla moderated the session. 65 participants from different parts of the country including Bangladesh participated in the seminar. The talk started with inaugural address by Prof. Chaman Lal Gupta, Director, IIAS. He described about the importance of library and providing services to improve the research publication. It was followed by invited talk by Dr. J.K Vijayakumar. He highlighted the role of libraries in promoting research and publication ethics, National Science and Innovation policy of India. He further explained the role UGC to promote Research and Publication Ethics and The National Science and Innovation policy of India to promotes open science, in which the public will have the right to access all published outputs from the research funded by the central government or the state governments. He also discussed the major role played by libraries in academic research institutions in the country to support their institutions and researchers in improving their research publications, profile and impact. He has highlighted that UGC has introduced a compulsory course for MPhil and PhD scholars in India on “Research and Publication Ethics”. The National Science and Innovation policy of India promotes open science, in which the public will have the right to access all published outputs from the research funded by the central government or the state governments. Libraries in academic research institutions in the country have a major role to play and support their institutions and researchers in improving their research publications, profile and impact. He emphasised that the librarian needs to develop the strategies and skills to support the open access movement. The meeting was ended with vote of thanks by Prem Chand, Secretary, IIAS, Shimla.
