Setup CCTV cameras in urban areas of state – Governor

Governor Bandaru Dattatraya while presiding over a review meeting with Police Department at Raj Bhavan today to discuss the increase of crime against women and children stressed setting up CCTV cameras in urban areas of the state. He said that keeping in view the increase in cybercrimes, the police department should establish a separate cyber cell to investigate cybercrimes.
The Governor expressed satisfaction that figures related to crime against women and children are less in the state and also appreciated the efforts of the Police Department. He said that the Department has taken several steps and has been successful in controlling crimes. He appreciated the initiative of the Director General of Police for his initiative of issuing 26 Number register for the crime against women and children from 1st August 2020. Himachal is the first state of the country to start this initiative and is also being followed by other states.
Shri Dattatraya said that crime against women is a sensitive issue and Police Department has to play an important role to check it. It is the responsibility of the Social Justice and Empowerment Department to spread awareness and ensure relief and rehabilitation work.
He stressed that female officers should be given important responsibility in the Police Department besides increasing their strength so that women could raise their issues with them without any hesitation. He also said that the department should constitute a separate team of IT specialists.
Additional Chief Secretary Nisha Singh said that first of all we need to expect the fact that women are facing crimes only after them we can work with more sensitivity in this direction. She also stressed on awareness and working on cybercrime and also suggested identifying hot-spots in the city where the police can work actively.
Director-General of Police Sanjay Kundu apprised about the steps and actions taken by police administration on crimes against women and children. He said that issues related to crime against women and children were very crucial. He said that the Police Department was focusing on crime against married, cybercrime, and kidnapping of adolescents. In such cases, concrete efforts were being done so that criminals could not get any kind of relief from courts. He said that police were considering to launch Women Cyber Helpline.
