Voting is True Duty of Responsible Citizen: DC Priyanka Verma

Nahan, Jan 25 2026: Deputy Commissioner and District Election Officer Priyanka Verma said that a person who exercises the right to vote is the true citizen of the nation in the real sense. Addressing the gathering at the 16th District-Level National Voters’ Day समारोह held at the DC Office Savings Building, she stressed that voting is both a constitutional right and moral duty essential for strengthening democracy.
She highlighted that Sirmaur district has received two state-level awards for special efforts in increasing the female voter ratio—one for the District Election Officer and another for the Electoral Registration Officer of Shillai.
The DC encouraged youths who have completed 18 years of age to register as voters and actively participate in elections. She also informed that National Voters’ Day has been celebrated annually since 2011 to promote voter awareness.
On the occasion, speech competitions were organised among students of ITI Nahan, Government Boys Senior Secondary School Nahan, and Government Girls Senior Secondary School Nahan. New voters were also issued photo identity cards and administered the voters’ pledge.
