Thakur Accuses Rahul Gandhi of Undermining Democratic Institutions, Targets Congress Over SIR

Shimla, October 31: Former Union Minister and Hamirpur MP Anurag Singh Thakur accused Rahul Gandhi and the Congress of undermining democratic institutions and alleged that the party was opposing the Special Intensive Revision (SIR) of electoral rolls to protect illegal immigrants, including Bangladeshis and Rohingyas.

Addressing felicitation ceremonies for newly elected Panchayati Raj representatives in the Kutlehar and Chintpurni Assembly constituencies, Thakur urged them to identify local development priorities and prepare clear roadmaps. He said strong panchayats were essential for the development of villages and Himachal Pradesh.

Questioning Congress’ opposition to SIR, Thakur said similar exercises had been conducted in the past without such objections. He claimed that the names flagged during the current revision included deceased voters, untraceable persons, people who had shifted addresses and duplicate entries. He said those affected could seek inclusion by submitting the required documents.

Thakur also criticised Congress’ changing stand on EVMs and challenged Rahul Gandhi to explain his objections to the electoral-roll revision.
