Shimla/Chandigarh, May 9, 2025 – Amid rising tensions between India and Pakistan, all schools in Punjab have been ordered shut until further notice. Students from colleges in the Chandigarh-Mohali region, especially from hostels, are returning to their hometowns, triggering crowd surges at the city’s Sector 43 bus stand.
The atmosphere in parts of Chandigarh has turned tense and deserted, particularly after recent drone alerts in Punjab’s border districts. Hostels near Landran Road and several private universities are now nearly empty as students from Himachal, Haryana, J&K, and Punjab leave following exam postponements.
Chandigarh Transport’s regular Jammu-Katra bus service has also been suspended in view of the escalating situation.
