Shimla | 29 August 2026

Students of Himachal Pradesh National Law University (HPNLU), Shimla, under the leadership of Hon’ble Vice-Chancellor Prof. (Dr.) Priti Saxena, undertook an educational visit to the Himachal Pradesh Vidhan Sabha as part of the University’s continuing efforts to promote constitutional awareness, electoral literacy, and informed civic engagement among students. The visit was organised under the aegis of the Electoral Literacy Club (ELC), HPNLU Shimla, and witnessed the participation of approximately 70 students.

The visit provided students with a valuable opportunity to observe the proceedings of the Himachal Pradesh Legislative Assembly and gain first-hand insight into the functioning of a democratic legislature. Students witnessed legislative discussions and parliamentary procedures, enabling them to better appreciate the practical operation of constitutional institutions and representative governance. The experience served as an important bridge between classroom learning and the realities of democratic decision-making.

During the visit, the students interacted with Shri Suresh Kumar, Hon’ble MLA from Bhoranj, and Shri Vinod Sultanpuri, Hon’ble MLA from Kasauli, who shared their experiences as elected representatives and discussed the role of legislators in public governance, law-making, and constituency development. The interaction offered students a deeper understanding of democratic participation and the responsibilities associated with public office.

The visit proved to be both informative and enriching, strengthening students’ understanding of legislative institutions, constitutional values, and electoral processes. Such initiatives reflect HPNLU’s commitment to experiential learning and to nurturing socially conscious and informed future legal professionals. The programme was organized by Dr. Ved Prakash, Faculty Coordinator, Electoral Literacy Club and student team.
