Sports Help Develop Discipline, Leadership and Confidence Among Children: Devender Jaggi
Dharamshala, August 31, 2026: The Block-Level Under-14 Sports Competition for boys and girls for the academic session 2026-27 was inaugurated at Government High School, Yol Cantt, with former Dharamshala Mayor Devender Jaggi lighting the ceremonial lamp.
Students from various schools across the block are participating in the competition and will showcase their talent in different sporting disciplines.
Addressing the young athletes, Jaggi said sports play an important role in the overall development of children. Participation in sports helps develop discipline, leadership skills, self-confidence and team spirit, he said.
He noted that children possess immense talent and need the right platform, encouragement and opportunities to develop their abilities. He urged the participants to focus on giving their best rather than being overly concerned about winning or losing.
Jaggi said victory and defeat are an integral part of competitive sport, while discipline, honesty and true sportsmanship are the greater achievements. He encouraged the young athletes to work consistently and make hard work the foundation of their success.
He further said that engaging children in sports has become increasingly important. Apart from keeping them physically fit, sports promote positive thinking and give children the confidence to face challenges.
Jaggi added that the state government is also making continuous efforts to promote sports alongside education and provide better opportunities for talented young athletes, particularly those from rural areas.
