On one hand, the government keeps on bragging about making Shimla a smart City whereas on the other hand situated in the heart of the city a public water tap was installed near Chawn near HP High Court (opposite HRTC taxi stoppage) which is laying which is lying nonfunctional for almost a decade. “It has been more than 12 to 15 years since this public drinking water station was installed. I don’t even remember how many times I have seen this structure getting renovated and how many times taps installed were stolen by the people”, shared a local resident who has been there on the spot for ages.
It is surprising that to make drinking water available to the public even a water tank with a capacity of 2000 l has been installed at the site but unfortunately, when it comes to water supply there is none. Right from this point to till Chota Shimla there is no other public drinking water station installed.
Commenting on the situation Dr. Pankaj Lalit, MD SJPNL says, ” I was not aware of the situation, soon we will look into the matter. Permission was required for the digging of the road as the lines are underground. So within a week’s time, we will try to fix the matter.”
“We have already made all water ATMs functional on Mall and other places as well and that too for free”, he added further.
It is sad to know that once again the metaled road will be dug to make the water station functional and public money will once again be wasted.
