Shimla, March 14: Visitors and locals in the state capital Shimla have long grappled with the daily issue of traffic jams. However, relief is on the horizon as construction work for a flyover, extending from the first assembly to Victory Tunnel, has commenced. This information was shared by the Mayor of Shimla Municipal Corporation, Surendra Chauhan, after the FCCIP meeting.

Mayor Surendra Chauhan revealed that the flyover, spanning from the assembly to Victory Tunnel, will be constructed at a cost of Rs. 25 crores, with a length of 220 meters. The construction of the flyover is expected to be completed in about a year. Mayor Chauhan stated that building flyovers and tunnels is the only solution to free Shimla from traffic congestion, with the construction of the first flyover already underway at a war footing.

He added that after the assembly Victory Tunnel flyover, there is a proposal to construct another flyover in Khalini, which will commence soon. Additionally, a proposal to build a tunnel from Lower Shimla to IGMC has been submitted to the government, which has been acknowledged by Chief Minister Sukhwinder Singh Sukkhu, and its DPR has almost been prepared.

Moreover, today, under the chairmanship of Mayor Surendra Chauhan, the monthly meeting of the contract and planning committee was held. Various development works, including issuing DA to corporation employees, were approved. These include allocating shops built near Rivoli through lottery and expediting the allotment of various types of tenders. Mayor Chauhan mentioned that considering the upcoming Lok Sabha elections, most of the works in this meeting have been approved to ensure that development work is not affected during the election code of conduct.
