Shimla Summer Festival 2026 to Feature Five-Day Theatre Extravaganza at Historic Gaiety Theatre

Shimla, May 28: As part of the International Shimla Summer Festival 2026, a five-day theatre festival titled “The Shimla Grishmotsav – Rang Manch Utsav” will be organised at the historic Gaiety Theatre from June 8 to June 12, 2026.

The cultural event, being organised by the Shimla district administration, aims to promote Himachal Pradesh’s rich theatrical traditions, folk culture and performing arts. Renowned theatre groups from across the region will stage acclaimed plays every evening during the festival.

Deputy Commissioner Shimla and Chairman of the Summer Festival Organising Committee, Anupam Kashyap, said the Shimla Summer Festival is not merely a medium of entertainment but an important platform to showcase Himachal’s cultural heritage to national and international audiences. He said the Rang Manch Utsav at the iconic Gaiety Theatre would offer a memorable experience for theatre lovers and tourists alike.

The festival will open on June 8 with the play “Zahar”, presented by Natyanukriti Shimla. The production is based on social realities and human emotions.

On June 9, “Double Trouble” by The Platform will entertain audiences with a blend of humour and satire reflecting contemporary social themes.

Shimla Acting Academy will stage “Man Ke Bhanwar” on June 10, highlighting human emotions, inner conflicts and life’s complexities.

On June 11, theatre group The Beginners will present “Bishtee Laani”, inspired by Himachali culture and folk traditions.

The festival will conclude on June 12 with the acclaimed play “Anaro” by Dhruvshikhar Shimla, focusing on women empowerment and the role of women in society.

The district administration expects large participation from theatre enthusiasts, tourists and local residents during the event. Necessary arrangements are being made for the convenience of visitors, while youths have been especially encouraged to participate and support theatre arts.
