Shimla SHGs to Take Local Products Global
1 min read
Shimla, December 29, 2025:
The district administration has decided to facilitate the export of products made by Self-Help Groups (SHGs) from Shimla to international markets. The decision was taken during a meeting of the District-Level Export Promotion Committee chaired by Deputy Commissioner Anupam Kashyap.
The initiative aims to enable SHGs to complete export-related formalities through structured export counselling and registration with Export Councils. Shimla district has around 5,500 registered SHGs involving nearly 32,000 families, actively engaged in food processing, handloom, handicrafts, and herbal products. While these products are already being sold across India through platforms like Him Eera, none of the SHGs are currently registered for overseas exports.
The administration will focus on capacity building, branding, packaging, labelling, and financial support to help SHGs meet global standards. Local products such as pickles, jams, honey, spices, red rice, apple sweets, pine needle products, jute bags, shawls, woollens, and knitted items have strong export potential.
The move is expected to strengthen women-led enterprises, enhance rural livelihoods, and give global visibility to Shimla’s indigenous products.
