Shimla, November 8, 2025: Kuhu Learns to Deal With Life, a touching middle-grade fiction that explores childhood emotions with empathy and realism, was formally launched at the Gaiety Theatre, Shimla. The book, published by Bare Bones Publishing and Sahana Ahmed, follows seven-year-old Kuhu Joshi, a sensitive and spirited child learning to cope with everyday challenges, friendships, and self-discovery. Through her journey, the book reassures children that their feelings are valid and reminds adults of the importance of listening and understanding young minds.
Authored by Sonia Dogra, a writer, editor, and ex-educator, Kuhu Learns to Deal With Life marks her debut in middle-grade fiction. Drawing upon her experience with children and literature, Dogra crafts a narrative that blends warmth, reflection, and hope. Acclaimed children’s author Khyrunnisa A has praised the book as “a story for readers of all ages,” appreciating its emotional depth and universality.
The launch event was presided over by Shri Shriniwas Joshi, noted columnist, author, and former civil servant. A panel discussion led by Prof. Meenakshi Faith Paul explored the book’s themes, emotional resonance, and its role in encouraging open conversations about childhood experiences.
Young readers Varahi Thakur (Auckland House School), Aarika Sharma (Monal Public School), Vihaan (St. Edward’s School), Arin (Swaran Public School) and Pritha Doegar (Auckland House School) shared their impressions of Kuhu’s story, highlighting how they connected with the protagonist’s emotions and courage.
The event, marked by lively interactions between children and the author, created an engaging platform for young readers to reflect on empathy and resilience through storytelling.
Organised by the Keekli Charitable Trust with support from the Language & Culture Department, HimachalTonite, Keekli, Brews & Books Café, and the Association of Book Clubs, the launch drew a diverse audience of readers, educators, and literary enthusiasts — celebrating a story that gives childhood its rightful voice.
