Section 163 BNSS Restrictions Imposed in Una During Urban Local Body Elections

Una, May 14: Jatin Lal, District Magistrate of Una, has imposed prohibitory orders under Section 163 of the Bharatiya Nagarik Suraksha Sanhita (BNSS), 2023, in six Urban Local Body areas of the district to ensure peaceful, fair and orderly conduct of the civic elections.

The restrictions will remain in force from 3 pm on May 15 until completion of the polling process on May 17.

The orders will apply in Mehatpur Basdehra Municipal Council, Santokhgarh Municipal Council and Nagar Panchayat areas of Amb, Daulatpur Chowk, Gagret and Tahliwal.

According to the orders, gatherings of more than five persons, public meetings, political rallies, use of loudspeakers, carrying weapons, sticks, banners and placards, and slogan shouting will be prohibited in the concerned areas during the restricted period.

The administration has also barred outside political workers from staying in the election areas after the campaign period ends. Prior permission from the local administration will be mandatory for taking out election processions.

The district administration further stated that gathering of unauthorised persons near counting centres will also remain strictly prohibited.

However, the orders will not affect normal daily activities of residents, including marriage ceremonies, funeral processions and movement of voters to polling booths for casting votes.

In addition, all liquor vends, shops and establishments serving alcohol in the six Urban Local Body areas will remain closed from 3 pm on May 15 till completion of the election process on May 17.

The administration warned that strict legal action will be taken against violators and appealed to citizens, political parties and stakeholders to cooperate in ensuring peaceful and democratic elections.
