Roses, Romance and a World of Stamps

Shimla Sept 29: Auckland House School student Pritha Doegar, a Class 12 student, has presented a unique philatelic collection titled “Romanticising with Roses”, exploring the enduring association of the rose with love, beauty and romance.

The collection takes visitors on a journey through different eras, tracing the evolution of romantic symbolism from the Roman period and Victorian age to the present. Through postage stamps, it brings together elements of history, art and culture associated with the timeless flower.

The exhibition features a diverse range of stamps, including porcelain and felt-cloth issues, golden-embossed and perfumed stamps, along with embossed designs, colourful patterns and interesting perforation errors. These unusual pieces highlight the creativity and craftsmanship involved in stamp production and printing.

The collection goes beyond the theme of roses to showcase philately as an art form and a means of preserving stories from different periods and cultures. Each stamp offers a glimpse into the evolution of design, technology and artistic expression, while collectively presenting the rose as a lasting symbol of romance.

The exhibition reflects Doegar’s interest in philately and demonstrates how stamp collecting can transform small pieces of postal history into a captivating journey through time.
