Role of NCC in shaping disciplined and responsible citizens lauded

Professor Harminder Singh Baweja, Vice-Chancellor of Dr YS Parmar University of Horticulture and Forestry (UHF), Nauni, lauded the National Cadet Corps (NCC) for its vital role in instilling discipline, leadership, confidence and a sense of social responsibility among youth.
He was addressing the closing function of the 10-day Annual Training Camp (ATC-232) organized by the 1 HP Boys Battalion NCC, Solan at the university campus. The camp brought together 572 NCC cadets from the Senior and Junior Divisions representing UHF Nauni and 16 educational institutions from Solan district. Participating institutions included Government Degree Colleges at Diggal, Arki and Solan; Government Senior Secondary Schools at Narag, Ramshehar, Arki, Dharampur, Oachghat, Kuthar, Mamligh, Kunihar, Subathu and Dhundan; Kendriya Vidyalaya Subathu; NPS Dhundan; Alpine Public School; MRA DAV Public School and DAV Public School, Rajgarh.
The camp was conducted under the supervision of Col. Rajiv Thomas, Commanding Officer, 1 HP Boys Battalion NCC, Solan, along with Administrative Officer Col. A.S. Sidhu, NCC officers, Associate NCC Officers (ANOs), teachers and supporting staff. Throughout the ten-day programme, cadets underwent intensive training in drill, physical fitness, weapon handling, disaster management, health awareness, social service, leadership, personality development, cultural activities and sports.
Welcoming the Chief Guest, Col. Rajiv Thomas briefed the gathering about the objectives and activities conducted during the camp. The programme was also attended by Director of Research Dr Devina Vaidya, Dean, College of Horticulture Dr Manish Sharma, Dean Students’ Welfare Dr S.K. Bhardwaj, and Officers on Special Duty Dr Anil Handa and Dr B.S. Dilta.
Addressing the cadets, Prof. Baweja appreciated the discipline, precision and teamwork displayed during the camp. He urged them to carry forward the values of discipline, integrity and dedication in their daily lives and become responsible citizens committed to nation-building. Referring to the colourful cultural performances presented by the cadets, the Vice-Chancellor emphasized that true education extends beyond the classroom. He encouraged students to identify their strengths, develop life skills and pursue their passions with determination. Stressing the importance of resilience, he advised them not to be discouraged by temporary setbacks or become complacent after success.
Prof. Baweja presented prizes to the winners of various competitions held during the camp. He congratulated the awardees and appreciated the efforts of all the cadets, encouraging them to continue striving for excellence in academics, sports and extracurricular activities.
