Rohru Apple Growers Disheartened by Lower Prices, Government’s ₹100/kg Promise Unmet

Rohru, Aug 15 : The apple growers in Rohru market are facing a disheartening reality as their hard-earned produce is fetching prices significantly lower than the government’s proposed rates of ₹100 per kilogram. Despite the government’s promises and assurances, farmers find themselves grappling with a stark disparity between the actual market price and the promised rate.

The farmers’ concerns are two-fold. Firstly, the administration’s involvement seems to be limited to enforcing weight restrictions on apple boxes, rather than actively controlling the market price. This lack of oversight has allowed the market to operate at its own whims and fancies, resulting in farmers being at the mercy of unpredictable pricing trends.

Secondly, the situation is exacerbated by the fact that even the basic price promised by the government is not being met. The hard work and investment put into cultivating these apples are not translating into fair returns for the farmers. This exploitation becomes particularly apparent in the wake of road conditions and natural calamities which further compound the challenges faced by the growers.

The discontent among the farmers is palpable, as they grapple with not only the economic repercussions of this situation but also the deep sense of disillusionment with the government’s unfulfilled promises. It has become evident that the proposed ₹100 per kilogram price was more of a distant aspiration rather than a practical reality for the farmers in Rohru and beyond.

As the agricultural community raises its voice against this exploitation, the focus shifts to the government’s role in ensuring fair prices for the produce that feeds the nation. The disheartening scenario in Rohru’s apple market underscores the urgent need for comprehensive reforms that not only take into account factors like market dynamics but also protect the interests of the hardworking farmers who contribute to the country’s growth.
