Govt’s move to take back hydel projects from PSUs under scanner, HRTC fare hike criticized

Shimla, 6 April 2025: On BJP Foundation Day, Leader of Opposition Jairam Thakur raised serious allegations against the Himachal Pradesh government, claiming large-scale corruption in the power generation sector. Speaking to the media at the BJP headquarters, Thakur said the state’s move to take back hydropower projects from reputed PSUs like SJVNL and NHPC and hand them over to companies from Andhra Pradesh and Karnataka indicates a massive scam.

He alleged that the mysterious death of HPPCL’s General Manager Vimal Negi is linked to this scam. “Whether it was suicide or murder remains a mystery. The government promised action within 15 days, but not even one suspect has been questioned,” he said, adding that the victim’s family is now demanding a CBI probe through candlelight marches.

Thakur also slammed the recent increase in minimum HRTC bus fare by ₹5, calling it cruel and unjustified. “The poor, who depend on HRTC, now have to pay ₹10 even for short distances. The government is breaking the back of the common man,” he said.

He also met protesting vocational teachers at Chhota Shimla, listened to their concerns, and assured to raise their demands with the government, noting their requests do not seem to pose a financial burden.
