Shimla, July 30, 2025: BJP State Media In-Charge Karan Nanda stated that the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana (PMGYSY), envisioned by former Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee, has laid a strong infrastructural foundation in Himachal Pradesh.
Under this scheme, 22,380.09 km of rural roads have already been constructed in the state, out of a total sanctioned 24,967.76 km. This rural road network has become a lifeline for remote villages, improving connectivity and accessibility.
Nanda highlighted that Phase IV of PMGSY aims to connect 25,000 villages across India by March 2029. Nationally, 7.83 lakh km out of 8.38 lakh km of sanctioned roads have been completed. States and UTs, including Himachal, are using GIS technology to identify and approve new road projects.
Special attention will be given to tribal areas and aspirational districts with over 50% ST population. In Himachal, villages with populations as low as 100 in tribal areas and 250 in general areas (based on the 2011 Census) will now be eligible for road connectivity.
Around 700 such villages have already been surveyed by the PWD. Additionally, snowbound and remote areas cut off during winter will also be connected under this phase.
